Real estate development, construction and investment firm Avenue has entered into an agreement with Charter Senior Living to lead management of two senior living properties: Charter Senior Living of Gateway Park in Greenfield, IN and Charter Senior Living of Hobbs Station in Plainfield, IN.
“Charter is respected for its delivery of quality lifestyle environments for older adults. With 100 years of combined experience in senior housing, our leadership team will ensure that the professionals at these sites have what they need to deliver exceptional service in cultures built on reliability, loyalty, pride and mutual respect,” said Keven J. Bennema, Charter Senior Living co-founder and CEO. “We are very pleased to extend our reach by adding Hobbs Station and Gateway Park to our fast-growing portfolio.”
Charter Senior Living uses best-practice models to deliver comprehensive operations management, marketing, strategic consulting and business management services. “We combine respected senior living talent with proven technologies to optimize living experiences for residents and families, work experiences for employee associates and connectivity experiences for owners,” Bennema said. “This aligns fully with our focus to provide seniors with exceptional services and the lifestyle they so richly deserve.”
Avenue Co-founder and Principal Mike Mattingly said, “With both the Gateway Park and Hobbs Station communities, we set out to embody what Avenue stands for — vision, integrity, community, partnership and purpose. Across the services offered at these properties – independent and assisted living with memory care services – we strive for excellence in providing wellness-centric environments where older adults can embrace life’s fullest potential. Our colleagues at Charter understand and embrace this purpose-driven philosophy.”
At Gateway Park, a 200-acre master planned campus led by the county’s largest healthcare provider Hancock Health, Charter Senior Living is located adjacent to the current outpatient and future inpatient and emergency expansion by Mayo-affiliated Hancock Health. “The Gateway campus was designed with intentional focus on health and wellness collaboration, both in physical location and purposeful operational programming,” Mattingly said. “Residents have ready access to nearby Hancock Health providers and services and free memberships to Hancock Health Wellness Centers.” Hancock County posted the fastest and second fastest growing counties in Indiana in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
“We have enjoyed working side-by-side with Avenue to bring this innovative offering to our region and welcome Charter Senior Living into the fold to promote health and wellness among those living at Gateway Park and the broader community,” said Steve Long, President and CEO of Hancock Health.
Charter Senior Living of Gateway Park is a 10-acre campus offering 176 units spanning independent living cottages and apartments as well as assisted living and memory care apartments. The project received a second-place finish for the 2024 Senior Housing News Architecture & Design Awards in the Wellness: Health & Fitness category.
Opened in January 2025 with 90 assisted living and memory care units, Charter Senior Living of Hobbs Station is in a 125-acre West Central Indiana master-planned community called Hobbs Station. Adjacent to this senior living site is a new public park and community gathering hubs as well as new retail and dining sites. “The intergenerational density created around Charter of Hobbs Station will be a strong amenity to its future residents and their loved ones,” Mattingly stated.
Charter strives to make life as worry-free as possible for its residents by offering a variety of services and life enrichment activities. Both communities offer onsite amenities such as multiple dining venues, theaters, meeting and activity spaces, fitness equipment, beauty salons, outdoor enjoyment spaces and more.
